The case method often leaves law students with a significant gap to traverse at the end of the semester. After racing through many chapters of material, students frequently find themselves with a tenuous grasp of the law and uncertainty about how to apply it in written form on exams.
The core issue is that, while much class time is devoted to deriving individual case holdings, little attention is given to synthesizing those holdings into practical and cohesive legal analyses that reflect modern law—analyses that are essential for exam success.
It is the mission of JurisJotter to help students bridge this gap. We offer writing templates, or “canned answers,” that clearly articulate the modern law for each issue and demonstrate how to structure effective and point-rich legal analyses.
We envision the templates being used as a foundation for notes or outlines, annotating and adapting them according to their professors’ preferences. This way, rather than leaving lectures with a tenuous grasp of the material, students will leave lectures knowing exactly how to set up the analysis for each issue on their exam.
With JurisJotter templates serving as stepping stones between the casebook and the exam, we hope students’ confusion and stress due to the practical shortcomings of the case method are greatly reduced, thereby freeing up mental space for learning the modern law and its application.
